HERMS Hot Liquor Tanks
Heat Exchanger Recirculating Mash System (HERMS) is a really effective and safe way to reheat wort that has been removed from your Mash Tun and put back into the top of your Mash Tun when recirculating. A HERMS is basically a stainless tubed coil fitted to the inside of a vessel and then the vessel is filled with water and heated to a certain temperature using a heat sauce. The water in the vessel is enough to fully immerse the SS coil and as wort passes through internally within the coil, (wort entering from the inlet and exiting from the outlet of each end of the coil), heat from the water will transfer to the wort thus heating the wort to the temperature of the water within the vessel. To make this type of system work the coil length needs to be long enough or internally wide enough to ensure the wort spends enough time in the coil as required to heat to the desired temperature. Recirculating through a heat sauce like a HERMS ensures the temperature of your Mash/Mash Tun is maintained through recirculating.
Our built in HERMS Hot Liquor Tanks (HLT) come complete and ready to fit into your system, just plug in and go. Most recently we have changed the design and the HERMS coils are now fitted inside the vessel using quick release fittings allowing the brewer to remove the coil and then use the HERMS coil as an immersion chiller in the Boiler Kettle, hence maximising the use of equipment you pay for. Our HERMS coils in our HLT's are made from 304SS and come as standard in 8m length and 1/2" in diameter, enabling the wort more then enough time to spend in the coil to heat as required. The built in HERMS also has a SS 3" Dial Thermometer on the outlet to ensure the brewer gets a real time temperature read of the wort coming out of the coil. By adding the temperature read capability at the outlet of the HERMS coil the brewer can monitor and ensure the wort is at the correct temperature required before returning to the Mash Tun.
Our HERMS HLT's come with all the features of our basic HLT's, as explained in the category description, with the added extra offering of a cost effective HERMS fitted.
