Ice Banks, Glycol & Flooded Beer Fonts
Glycol dispensing systems are commonly found in commercial bars. However, these days a number of people use them for home bars as Glycol or Ice Bank chillers can serve other purposes aside from chilling ready beer for the home brewer or home bar. At Cheeky Peak Brewery we offer a host of different products for commercial application and we have done a number of commercial installs and by doing so we have saved commercial customers thousands of dollars on their beer systems.
A Glycol system is very easy to set up. Glycol or cold water is pumped out of a Glycol or Ice Bank chiller unit via a built in outlet and through tubing into a Glycol compatible beer font and out of the return tubing of the Glycol compatible beer font. The tubing coming out of the beer font then runs along the beer line/s to the beer line/s source (the beer keg) and is returned along the beer line/s and back into the Glycol or Ice Bank chiller unit. After running the Glycol line/s along the beer line/s you wrap the beer line/s around the glycol lines and then apply insulation around all of those lines to limit the beer and Glycol lines exposure to the elements and contain them within an enclosed cold environment. A Glycol unit will come with a built in fluid tank reservoir with SS tubing that goes into the fluid tank and will be submerse into Glycol and water mix when the tank is full, beer will pass through the SS tubing submersed in the Glycol water mix to cool ready for serving temperature. Glycol units also come with a temperature controller that controls the built in refrigeration unit which cools the fluid reservoir to the temperature set on the temperature controller unit.
Glycol units are not only good for cooling beer, they can also be used to control or cool fermenting beer in a fermenter. Glycol units can also be used to help cool wort that has been brewed, so the brewer can use normal tap water for a high percentage of the cooling process and then use the Glycol system to reach lower or final pitching temperature. A Glycol is not a waste of money in any brewery, home brewery or commercial brewery.
