NANO-X 250L Dished Vessel 2V
Welcome to the NANO-X 250L 2V brewing system, quickly becoming our top-selling model among the 2V systems. Its popularity stems from being less messy, easier to use, and capable of producing significantly more wort compared to a Single Vessel System. Additionally, it offers a highly cost-effective solution for increasing wort production volumes.
The 2V brewing concept:
This highly cost-effective 250L 2V brewing system allows you to produce a single 250L batch of wort or a double batch of 500L in one brew day. For single-batch brewing on our 2V system, we recommend the figure-of-eight brewing technique, where the Hot Liquor Tank (HLT) also serves as the Boiler Kettle (BK) to complete a batch. Double batching on a 2V system is straight forward but requires the use of an efficient instant hot water service (which everyone has) to function as the HLT, as explained below.
Single Batch Brewing:
To produce a single batch on the NANO-X 2V, we use the figure-of-eight brewing technique. This method is easy to master and involves transferring wort from the Mash Tun (right vessel) to the HLT/BK (left vessel) and simultaneously returning it to the Mash Tun from the HLT/BK for a 60-minute mashing period. During this process, the total water for the batch is used, and the mash water and sparge water mix until the target gravity and wort clarity are achieved.
Brewing starts by heating all the water in the HLT/BK. Strike water is then transferred to the Mash Tun, and the HLT may need a small top-up to reach the required total water target. After topping up the HLT, add the grain to the Mash Tun and mash in. Once satisfied with your mash and testing, start the figure-of-eight re-circulation process.
This technique is simple, less messy, and hassle-free. The mash temperature is maintained by the fluid returning from the HLT/BK to the Mash Tun, as the elements are in the HLT/BK. It’s crucial to ensure equal fluid transfer between the vessels to maintain their starting volumes, avoiding overflow or dry elements. To facilitate this, CP has equipped the system with two flow meters, one on the HLT/BK and one on the Mash Tun, allowing the brewer to set the exact flow rate into each vessel and making kettle volume maintenance foolproof.
Double Batch Brewing:
Double batching on the 250L NANO-X 2V is straight forward and a significant time-saver compared to double batching on a single vessel system. After completing the first batch and transferring all the liquid from the Mash Tun to the HLT/BK, set the controllers to boiling temperature for the first batch. Then, remove the grain from the Mash Tun, replace it with strike water at temperature from an instant hot water service, and begin the mashing-in process.
Once you have mashed in, start the re-circulation of fluid in the Mash Tun, where the fluid comes out of the Mash Tun, into the pump, and back into the top of the Mash Tun for a 60-minute period if needed. After the mash period is complete, set the hot water service to 75 degrees and use it to sparge according to the required sparge volume. As you sparge, transfer the wort to the HLT/BK, ensuring your timing allows the HLT/BK to be ready to receive the second batch for boiling.
An instant hot water service is essential for this process, although a cost-effective hot water liquor tank can also be used. To maintain mash temperature, you can add an additional element (3200w/15amp or 5500w/25amp, sold separately) under the Mash Tun’s false bottom, where provisions have been made for it. Another useful addition is a 32amp NANO Boss Relay module (sold separately), which can be used with the HLT/BK controller, allowing the Mash Tun to have its own controller.
2V System Breakdown:
Hot Liquor Tank (HLT) / Boiler Kettle (BK)
The system features a 270L 304SS single-skinned dished HLT/BK with a 1.5mm skin thickness. Two 2” Tri Clover element ports are placed at the rear of the vessel, set low (at the 70L mark) to prevent the elements from dry running. In a 250L figure-of-eight batch scenario for a 4.8% ABV beer, the HLT will hold between 130L to 170L of water at any given time.
The HLT/BK is equipped with two 304SS 5500w/5.5kw/25amp super low density single-phase 240V elements, with an electric current density of just 6 watts per square cm of the element. Each element is tri clamped into the HLT/BK’s 2” Tri Clover ports at the rear, allowing for quick and simple installation and removal for cleaning. These elements are wired with high-temperature cable tails and feature a male IP66 rated 32amp plug top for safe use in wet areas. The total power required to run the elements is 11000w/11kw/50amp single-phase 240V, which provides a heating rate of 1 degree per minute when the kettle is at 265L capacity. Each element comes with a 12-month warranty.
A 1.5” Tri Clover 304SS Pullover Butterfly Valve combined with a 1.5” Tri Clover 304SS 90-degree elbow, 1.5” 304SS Tri Clover clamps, and seals form the dump valve assembly at the center of the dished base. This assembly allows for complete water and cleaning fluid removal, ensuring no chemical residue remains after cleaning and enabling the system to be stored dry.
The system includes a NANO Boss 32amp Touch Screen Controller with a 3-year warranty. This controller offers precise temperature control and voltage control, which lowers the current to the Super Low Density Watt Elements from 0% to 100%, preventing wort scorching. Voltage control also enables better control over boil rates to
prevent boil overs and excess wort evaporation, and allows for reduced power usage during the temperature maintenance stage of brewing, saving costs over time. The NANO Boss comes wired with 32amp IP66 rated plug tops and 10amp IP66 rated plug tops. Additionally, it has a built-in separate 10amp pump circuit, enabling a single system pump to be turned on and off from the controller touch screen.
The system is also provided with a 65w Magnetic Drive Pump for transferring wort from the HLT/BK to the Mash Tun, and from the HLT/BK through a wort chiller (sold separately) to the whirlpool valve or a fermentation vessel. Additional 1.5” Tri Clover plumbing is included in a well-designed manifold on the outlet of the 65w pump to enable fluid directional change, either through re-circulation plumbing to the Mash Tun or out to a wort chiller, the whirlpool valve, or a fermentation vessel. The 65w Magnetic Drive Pump includes a bottom 1.5” Tri Clover mounting plate, enabling the pump to be mounted to the system using a Tri Clover clamp. This design allows for easy removal of the pump, so the remainder of the system can be hosed down when cleaning, preventing water damage to the rear of the pump. The provided vessel pump comes with a 2-year warranty.
Mash Tun:
The Mash Tun features a 270L 304SS single-skinned, dished design with a 1.5mm skin thickness and includes a grain door. The vessel is equipped with a hinged 304SS false bottom, which allows for easy removal through the grain door. The false bottom, constructed from 2mm thick 304SS, is slitted on top and supported by perforated 304SS rings to safely bear the grain weight. A gap between the reinforced perforated rings at the base allows for an element to fit under the false bottom, raising it to the 25L to 30L mark, level with the outlet of the grain door. The grain door also includes a removable grain guide to minimize mess when removing or scraping out grain.
At the rear of the vessel, there is a 2” Tri Clover element port, which can accommodate an additional element (sold separately) under the false bottom. Directly above this port is a 1.5” port for a thermowell or NANO Boss controller temp probe housing. The dump valve assembly, located at the center of the dished base, includes a 1.5” Tri Clover 304SS Pullover Butterfly Valve combined with a 1.5” Tri Clover 304SS 90-degree elbow. These fittings, along with 1.5” 304SS Tri Clover clamps and seals, ensure complete water and cleaning fluid removal, leaving no chemical residue and allowing the system to be stored dry.
